Commutator profile analysis after turning

This system allows to analize the commutator profile and to calculate its characteristics after a filtering procedure that removes slots from the original profile analysis.
The armature shaft is referred on V stands reproducing the machining condition.

  

  


Measure Performed

BAR-TO-BAR: It’s the gap of two facing bar edges spaced by slot. All these gaps are calculated and the bigger is displayed. The typical tolerance is 3 µm. This parameter affects motor life.

 

BAR RISE – DELTA BAR: It’s the local TIR on every single bar. All these TIR’s are calculated and the bigger is displayed. The typical tolerance is 5 µm. Its value is particularly related to the lathe tool wear and warns when a tool change is required.

 

TIR: It’s calculated considering all the commutator profile (except slots). The typical tolerance is 10 µm. Its value shows if the shaft is bent and warns about assembly problems.

 

COMMUTATOR DIAMETER: The typical tolerance is 200 µm.

ROUNDNESS: The typical tolerance is 5 µm.

  • Shaft TIR in different sections.
  • Shaft bearing shoulder TIR.

Bench Retooling

The standard bench can check armature having the following dimension range:

  • Shaft diameter : 3-17 mm (1/8-11/16').
  • Commutator diameter: 60 mm (2 3/8') max.
  • Lamination stack diameter: 120 mm (3 15/16') max.
  • Distance between V stands: 300 mm (11 13/16') max.

On request can be supplied benches with larger ranges than the above ones.

The bench change over is 'user friendly' thanks to the self learning retooling technique (It’s a technique leading the operator in reaching different stands position).

Every position is detected by sensors and displayed by virtual rulers so for every part to be measured is memorized its stands and probes configuration so that it can be easily reached every time is required.


Advantages in comparison with traditional systems

  • Repeatible measures because always the same algorithms act.
  • Reproducible measures because their calculation is not affected by operator judgment.
  • Measures are the result of an individual optimization (part type by part type) of filtering parameters of commutator profile. This process is easily managed by customer.
  • The modular project allows subsequent implementation of the available options.
  • The option 'self learning retooling' is a great advantage when the bench is used for statistical process control of lines producing different parts to be randomly measured.
  • Software upgrades are available on line for customer having an individual access to a reserved download area of the MG site.

  • The measures memorized can be transferred in QS-stat or Excel format for customer original reports.
